Ushi, China’s equivalent of LinkedIn, raises $3 million

Ushi, a private social networking platform for professionals and entrepreneurs, has raised $3 million from Gerson Lehrman Group (GLG).

Ushi, pronounced ‘you-shi’, connects China’s businesses, professionals and entrepreneurs through their social networking platform. Think of LinkedIn as an equivalent. GLG has a network of more than 25,000 subject matter experts who engage in deal sourcing, research etc.

GLG has partnered with Ushi and acquired a minority stake in the social networking platform. The investment raises the total capital of Ushi to $4.5 million.

Earlier, other investors namely Milestone Capital’s founder partner Yunli Lou, Endeavor’s co-founder Peter Kellner and managing director of Li & Fung Jose Cheng invested in Ushi. They also participated in the second round of funding for the Shanghai-based service provider till date.

Ushi’s use base till now has touched 40,000 CEOs, 10,000 CTO exes and key individuals from over 85 per cent from China’s VC and PE firms.

Ushi is a private business targeted to make networking easy between  business and customers, partners, employees, experts, and enables the members of its social network to share and discuss information. The company is focused on helping people expand their reach in professionally.

Growing number of Internet users in China means more growth for highly competitive social networking websites like Ushi in the near future.

With the popularity of Ushi in China, they might just pose in a threat to similar social networking sites such as LinkedIn who focus their services to professionals from around the world.

News is that Identified.com has been funded with $1.5 million by Silicon Valley’s premium investors. Identified was founded by Adeyemi Ajao and Brendan Wallace when they were students at Stranford University. Within a week of launch, 90% of students at Stanford were using the search engine. With this success rate and the hope of greater success in social networking, Identified.com is all set to challenge some big names.

Identified, beta, version has been launched. The company is based in San Francisco and has 25 employees.
