As the years pass the world population grows older and the cities grow denser, there is the issue of city congestion, so a lot of cities have cut of the traffic in the main center squares and main roadways. They are also introducing high taxes for the cars that are going to be used in those parts. So, recently, there has been a boom in concepts for vehicles that are named “last mile”, concepts based on two or three wheel drive, mainly based on electricity. This boom was first introduced by Segway with their two wheel electric transport vehicle. On this scene now comes the Chinese company Geely, which has introduced a lot of design concepts in the last years. Read more of this post

Pavegen: Constructing Renewable Energy One Step at a Time

Pavegen

Pavegen

Europe’s largest urban mall located at the 2012 London Olympics will soon be powered by Paving slabs which will initially convert the people’s footsteps into electricity. The forces of the people’s footsteps will help generate kinetic energy that will be produces by the recycled rubber “PaveGen”. It will, in turn, deliver electricity bursts to nearby appliances. And what is more to that, is its ability to store energy for 3 days. Primarily, 20 tiles will be distributed between the newly opened Westfield Stratford City mall, which is estimated to have about 30 million customers in the first year of its foundation, and London’s Olympic Stadium alongside central crossing.

How does it exactly work? It’s quite simple but its simplicity brin gs about an innovation that could forever change the course of human’s capacity to acquire energy. First and foremost, the most significant element is the walking over the PaveGen tile. In this regard, every footstep will harvest renewable energy. It basically converts kinesis to energy that would eventually be used and stored into a multiplicity of applications. When stepped over, the PaveGen tiles glows since it contains a central luminaire, and by which indicate the processing of the energy. It then produce energy that will power off- grid appliances. Preferably, this technology should be in a highly urbanized environment.

PaveGen really is an environment- safe product, from the materials to its output. While on the subject of materials, PaveGen prides itself for the usage of 100% recycled rubber surface and 80% recycled materials which slabs are made of. It is devised to be easily modified in the current flooring systems.  Its durability is taken seriously since it is generally designed to be used in every condition ranging from internal or external locations. It is also devised to be employed even in harsh location and the slabs are also waterproof.

Kemball- Cooks’ PaveGen system will really help us change our perception of renewable energy. When installed, it could shift acquisition of energy from being passive participants to being engaging in producing energy. Imagine being able to produce tens of thousands of application in every step you take with PaveGen. It is an innovation like no other.
