Seagate Hard Drive

Last year’s flood in Thailand have made a total chaos on the hard drive market. A lot of people were wondering if that was the end of the hard drive era. Until now the situation was not good at all, but it seems that for a different type of media storage we will have to wait for at least a decade.

Seagate has announced that they achieved a drastic increase in the limit of bit rate per inch. The former limit was 620Gbit/in² and they managed to increase that to 1Tb per inch. This amazing breakthrough was made by using a new innovative method of data recording called HAMR (heat assisted magnetic recording). This technology foresees the usage of a heat laser for data recording in addition to the normal head reader that is still used for reading the information. Read more of this post
