Rikomagic – Ruminants Of The Past

RikomagicThe year 2009 was very interesting for the hardware developers. The coming out of small, ultra-portable notebook computers, known by the name netbook, has opened a new chapter in the development of mobile computers. Even though they are slow for today’s standards, they are still usable for the task that they were made for. The Atom processors were behind time, even at the time they came out. That’s why the manufacturers gave up this approach and went into production of ultrabook computers, which kept their dimensions, but brought with them a bigger punch, with the much stronger hardware.

That is why we find the decision of Rikomagic Company to introduce a new representative of the netbook family strange. It brings specifications that are mediocre, even for this class of portable computers.

Four or eight gigabytes of NAND memory are all that the user has left for usage (for its operating system and personal files). The only novelty is that these models work on ARM architecture, to be precise a dual-core A10 processor working at 1.5GHz.

On the other hand this architecture doesn’t support SATA devices, so the only way of introducing additional space to the system is by using the microSD slot.

MK802 Mini PC is aimed for the users of Windows 8, but its 1 GB of RAM won’t be helpful in achieving good performances. In addition its keyboard and touchpad are surely not the main input devices when considering ARM architecture and also Microsoft didn’t put them on a leading position, when it comes to Windows 8 implementation. That’s why even the autonomy of this little netbook is bad and it can reach maximum 3 hours that makes it another minus for it. This is namely one of the biggest deficiencies of this netbook that even though it is working on a very low consuming processor it can push out so little power-time usage.

Maybe the only thing that will interest any one is its petite price of 120 €.
