Samsung Series 9 (NP900X3C)- A Nine For A Pure Ten

Samsung Series 9Expected or not, Samsung at the start of this year lifted a lot of dust on CES, mainly with their mobile phones, TV’s and household items, but they also impressed the world with their laptop Series 9, which are so light that even MacBook Air should be afraid. The first dilemma when you see a notebook like this is in which class you should consider it. Is it a notebook or an ultrabook?  Best description will be to say that it is an ultrabook, which jumps out from all the competition.

We are reviewing (NP900X3C), which comes with a dual core Ivy Bridge Core i5 processor that works on 1.7GHz that can get up to 2.6GHz in Turbo mode and it has a maximum power consumption of 17W. The processor is paired with HM76 chipset and 4GB working memory that is enough for a cozy working environment. For storage it has a SanDisk SSD 128GB drive, which gives out some impressive marks on the bench test achieving speeds of 465 MB/s. This ultrabook comes with a screen that will impress anyone. This is not because of the pixel density, because this 13.3 incher has a 1600×900 screen, but the amazement comes from the contrast, colors, equal lightning and viewing angles on a non-glossy PLS screen, which can blow the pants of even the retina displays on the Mac.

Because of the small dimensions, it doesn’t have a ROM drive Ethernet and VGA connector, but it comes with some special adapters, which don’t use the USB ports. The speakers are not as good as the ones on the HP Beats laptops, but the sound quality will suffice for a normal multimedia consumer.

Our opinion is that this ultrabook can stand next to the Zenbook and MacBook Air ultrabooks and give them something to think about. With its dimensions and thickness of just 12.9mm and weight of just 1.16 kg, it is the lightest ultrabook so far.

As you can imagine the price will reach and even exceed the $1000 mark, depending on the configuration, but for this ultrabook it is worth it.
