If you are a proud owner of one of the most popular tablets in the world, than you are well informed about the vast number of add-ons that are made especially for it. The speakers that are built-in in the iPad are anything but bad, especially when compared with the competition, but you will often feel the need for additional speaker power, especially when you are watching a good movie, or playing some music. In those cases the best solution would be speakers that you have around the house. But, these kinds of speakers are not easily portable. When thinking that bigger means better, these kinds of speakers are not the best choice for travel.

The well-known Swiss company Logitech has introduced one solution for the problem of achieving a good sound, while providing some other functions. The AV Stand for iPad is a combination of a stand that provides charging, a sound system and an adapter for transferring video signal to an external monitor. This “3 in 1” combo feels right at paper, but how is it in real life?

The device itself weighs 1.5 kg and it is made out of relatively high quality plastic, while the finishing layer in shiny black color gives it an appealing look. The base of the device is consisted of a circular construction, where you will find the speakers that are declared as 5W (RMS). On the stand you can put your iPad, never minding its generation (special adapters for the iPad 2 and iPad 3 are provided) and the stand is rotatable, so it can stand in landscape, or in up-right mode.

The speakers give out a good enough sound that will not satisfy an audiophile, but are enough for normal everyday usage. On the back side there is a composite connector (chinch) for attaching an external monitor, as well as a 3.5 mm jack for external sound. On the front side of it there are buttons that need to be pressed quite hard to respond, but the dedicated remote that comes with it will do their job perfectly.

This device, as all others made for Mac products, has a high price, but it is a great “3 in 1” unit.
