7970 GHz Edition – Trying To Get Back On Top

7970 GHz EditionWe all know the cutthroat race between the two main GPU manufacturers the NVidia and AMD. It has been a never-ending race of who can make the best GPU or who will have the best performance/ price ratio. This time we are talking about the giants battling between each other with their best fighters, their top dogs. With the introduction of NVidia’s GeForce 680 GTX version, AMD fell a bit behind in the performance margin and now they are trying to fight back with their new revision of the 7970 GPU, conveniently called the 7970 GHz Edition.

The revision of this card is basically an overclocked version of the same card. The same specs are there, so the same processor, the same manufacturing process, the same RAM, but the speeds have been clocked a bit. For an example we will give you the full specs of the two cards.

As you can see from the table the basic was totally kept as it was in the previous version but this time AMD has mached the price of the new GPU with the price of the 680GTX. With the extra MHz they came back to back with the leader from the competition and as the original 7970 was overclockable by 150MHz this can be done with this version as well. The only thing that is different in this version are the drivers that have been accommodated to the card and the bios, as well as the new boost option of the card giving it the necessary push when it needs it.
