Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean)

Jelly Bean Android 4.1Google had their I/O conference on the 27th of Jun and they introduced a lot of new hardware that they are pushing on the market this next quarter and people could have easily missed their software upgrade called Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean), which will introduce a bit of a revolution in the Android market. With it the Jelly Bean brings a lot of enhancements that will make this iteration of the software a new want to have version.

One of the biggest improvements in this version is that Google is implementing is a  voice command interface that will process your every command and try to find a solution, in a way that the Siri software does it in Apple, but with a big difference; it doesn’t go online to find the answer. It will interpret the command query itself, instead of hooking up to a Google server.  It can show everything that you ask it, from map results, to search results and weather forecasts.

The other thing is the implementation of Google Now, which is a meta-service that will combine all of the calendar events, navigation and a full spectrum of other data services, which are supposed to make the users’ life easier. Some people are afraid of this combination of following software, because of how Google Now works. It will check your schedule and check your position on Google maps and will give you a reminder of where to go and how long you will need to go to the scheduled place. But, this will come in hand with people that have a heavy schedule.

The last two improvements are also quite impressive. One of them is something that is called “Project Butter” that is going to make all of the software animation and transitions much smoother. It uses some improvements in the kernel that will use the processors’ power much smoother, but people think that it will consume more power. The last thing is the notification tray that has been improved in many ways. One example is that now you can see a missed call in the notification area and directly dial that number.

There are a lot of other little improvements as well. For an example the maps will work offline now, the keyboard will make predictive suggestions and the home screen has been tweaked.

The Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) is out, but it is only made for the Nexus series for now. For the other phones and tablets will be a while until they get an official version.
