We have seen a lot of gadgets that had a lot of necessary tech, and a lot of gadgets that had some tech that they really don’t need. This device is belongs to the second group. I know that people want their phones to be dust free, scratch resistant and waterproof but I don’t get what Panasonic thought of when they made a waterproof portable player. Maybe it is just me, but I don’t think that anyone would go in the bathtub with a full size 7 inch PMP.
Subjectivity to the side, let’s see what it holds.
It is an Android working player that works on Android 2.3 Gingerbread, that won’t be upgradable to 4.0 Ice cream Sandwich, but I don’t think you would miss the 4.0 on a PMP. It has a 7 inch screen with a resolution of 800 x 480 pixels and not to forget it has a waterproof body named IPX6/7. It has a built in 1 Seg TV tuner, slot for SDXC memory cards, Wi-Fi connectivity, DLNA/ DTCP-IP and a 4GB internal memory from which you will only have 1.94GB left to use. It has dual cameras one in the front that has 0.3 mega pixels and one in the back that is a 2 megapixel camera.
So far, this little gadget will keep its ground in the Japan and I don’t think that it will touch international grounds. With these specs and the overall price of the device, and with the only good thing (water resistance), it will not be emptied from the shelves any time soon.
It will be sold in Japan starting from the end of June with a price of 43.000 Yen that translates into $548. We say, good luck selling it, you are going to need it.
