Researchers from Madrid, Spain from the University Carlos III, came up with something that should revolutionize how visually impaired people could manage in their surroundings. When they would manage to go around without any help from another person would surely put a grind on their faces. I think that terminator vision is a great name for these helping goggles because of their way of displaying information.

Ok this is not for people with total damage to the optical nerve; it is for the ones that still have at least partial sight left. So how does it work?

This goggles as they say will give you terminator kind of vision, achieved by two cameras mounted on a VR (virtual reality) headset, which will be connected to a computer probably with minute sizes that will process the scanned area that is in front of the person, which is wearing them. Than it will show on the display all the relevant info that is collected about the scene that the wearer is facing and it will do that in color- coded outlines, giving the wearer information about the shape and distance of an object that will traditionally hard to see.

The main professor Ricardo Vergaz, which is working on this project said that this goggles will detect people and objects that are in the visual field of the user and it will display the obstacles more clearly, giving the user even better sight than a normal person in bad light conditions. The problem with the people that are visually challenged is that they mostly don’t detect the obstacles because of their problem with the contrast.

This little helper is still in the testing phase and its being tested on a small group of sample patients but they are expecting to have final results till the end of this year but there is still no report about making a commercial version.
