MaKey MaKey – Convert Your Things Into A Touchpad

MaKey MaKey

This awesome idea comes from the fact that the human body can be used in the circuit building and to put its conductivity into use. Plus, to add some fun in it.

Developers Jay Silver and Eric RosenBaum took the touch interaction to a higher level, more practical and more entertaining. The conductivity idea, inspired from a lie- detectors clips and wires, turned out that can convert everyday objects into computer controls, keys and buttons, even a touchpad.

MaKey MaKey USB electronic circuit board is connected to the objects with six wires, with crocodile clips on the both ends. Every wire is connected to the circuit board that represents computer commands- like direction arrow keys, left mouse click and space. The jack should be in contact with anything that conducts even a small amount of electricity, there are even some photos, on which is shown that fruit, coins and play-doh are converted into touchpads.

Imagine using the letters from an alphabet soup as keys for typing a message.

The point is the user to have one cable in one hand and to touch the dedicated object connected with another cable, thus to close the electronic circuit.

The input commands would be sent with the HID (Human Interface Device)- protocol to the computer. The gadget is planned to work on any computer with an USB port and we might say it’s getting more and more popular, judging by the comments.

The project is put on Kickstarter, a website for crowd funding, which helps the designers and developers to raise funds for starting the production process.

There’s also a price mentioned on the site, for a pledge of 35$, the developer will grant the donors a full set of the MaKey MaKey.

So, if you plan to be a part of your controlling circuit and to turn the objects around you into touchpads, this is an excellent possibility. Just go for it!
