LG EM9600 – Even Thinner Than Your Mobile Phone

The Korean electronic company LG designed the thinnest TV set in the world. They introduce this TV set on this year’s CES fair in Las Vegas.

What’s so revolutionary about this product- it’s the world’s biggest TV screen and at the same time the thinnest- it has 55’’ OLED screen, which measures only 4 mm. of thickness.

Finally, the LCD and the Plasma technology met their successor. The screen uses the OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diodes) technology, which allows the TV to have a sharper and clearer picture. Namely, the OLED technology doesn’t require a backlight, since the diodes emit light, which actually makes the screen thinner.

The diodes are able to emit red, green, blue and white light, which is the key point for having sharp picture and with excellent contrast. It uses Oxide TFT technology, which makes it able to reduce cross- talk.
The technology that we were used to see only in the mobile phones is now finally available and ready to be applied for the TV screens. At the beginning, it was very difficult to develop a big OLED screen or to adapt the technology from the high- end mobile phones to a TV screen, but at the end, LG managed to pull it off.

As mentioned, the TV has 55 inch screen and is only 4 mm. thick, thinner than LG’s mobile phones. Since we’re comparing it with a mobile phone, it weights 7,5 kg, which is much more than your mobile phone, but hey, it’s a TV we talking about!

The LG’s plan is the TV to be affordable for the masses. The price is said to be around 5000 $, much pricier than the other OLED TVs on the market which are definitely much thicker than this one, but it is expected to fall in the next following years.
