This story begins when NVIDIA officially announced the new graphics card NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680. At the beginning, the performance tests showed that NVIDIA’s model is somewhat superior to AMD Radeon HD 7970.

AMD made a decision that the time has come to get the Radeon HD 7970 back on the throne and to regain the title of superior GPU graphics card- which means the fastest. Luckily for them, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680 was a bit faster, so they decided to increase the core frequency slightly and thus, to restore the Radeon HD 7970 as leader.

From the previous information, the basic Radeon HD 7970 has core frequency of 925 MHz.
The improved version will receive another postscript in its title- GHz Edition, since its core will work at 1 GHz.

The story continues- AMD announced that this will be the world’s first GPU made in 28nm with the revolutionary brand-new GCN Architecture and also, as a set standard it is DirectX® 11 ready. They announced the next bettered gen. AMD Eyefinity technology, which features all-new stereo 3D support, universal bezel compensation and brand new configurations for the display.

This warrior is equipped and armed with the new PCI-Express 3.0 standard, multi-GPU configurations with AMD CrossFire™ technology, it achieves faster gaming with higher clocks using AMD’s Power Tune technology, with ability to process faster with the App Acceleration- powered by the unprecedented 28nm GCN Architecture, full HDMI® support (with 4K) a Display Port 1.2 HBR2, the 7970 is set for quad HD.

The reports say that AMD received GPUs from the contract manufacturers and majority of them are stable and working at 1250 MHz. Amazing, isn’t it?
The other versions of the GPUs, namely Radeon HD 7770 and Radeon HD 7870 will also receive the GHz Edition title.

OK, this sounds like the best just got even better.
