Samsung has been pushing out interesting mobile design solutions and mobile innovations for a while and so far they haven’t hit the spot. Now they are testing out their new phone with a built in projector but, they haven’t made a big fuss so far. May be this is because its older brothers, the Samsung i7410 and Samsung i8520- which is the basis of this phone, didn’t go so well on the market. Even though they held something new and unheard of in the phone industry, they didn’t make a big fuss and went to their early grave silently. So, Samsung now is hoping to leave a mark on the market with this new phone.

Because it is still in the phase of pre-production, the final phone can have a different final outlook. So far the phone has some normal features with that special thing, its video beam projector. The overall dimensions and weight are a bit smaller than its older brother; it is about 2.4mm thinner but, a bit taller and 10g lighter. It houses a 4 inch LCD screen that is a setback from the Super AMOLED but, the pixels stayed the same 480×800. There are some other setbacks from the 2010 model like- the memory is cut in half, the camera sensor is now a 5MP, instead of the 8MP and the projector is a nHD, instead of the WVGA but, it now gets up to 15 lumens, instead of 10. The other specifications are: a Dual-Core 1GHz ARM processor and a Mali-400 GPU, 768 RAM,8GB storage and a microSD slot. It will work on Android 2.3.6 with TouchWiz 4.0. It houses a 2000 mAh battery that as Samsung claims can hold up to 3 hours of projector time.

The projector itself has a dedicated button and it can be turned on from any application. It is housed on the top of the phone at a great spot and doesn’t even stick out, so if you are looking at the phone from the top side you cannot even see that it is a projector phone. The projector is not that bright, so you will have to use it in a dark room.

Overall it’s an updated and a bit degraded phone but, for any one that wants to make presentations and not carry around a projector it is a great mini portable projector phone.
