There’s a possibility that Liquidmetal will be used in Apple’s future products such as the iPhone. But what do we know about Liquidmetal? Why is it said that this will be a new ‘breakthrough invention’ by Apple? What we know about Liquidmetal is that it is very strong and durable and it will be used by Apple for the said ‘breakthrough product’ at some point.

What is Liquidmetal? Well the term Liquidmetal is just a trade name for this metallic alloy. This alloy has a unique atomic structure and is similar to glass. It is commonly known as ‘bulk metallic glass’ or ‘bulk amorphous alloy’. But is it ready to be used for the future products of Apple? Not yet. This technology is not yet mature and is perfect both in manufacturing and application development. This technology is yet to be finished and is under development for about 3 – 5 years. What would be the benefits of using Liquidmetal to future Apple Products? Future products will be scratch and corrosion resistant, and products can be precision cast into complex shapes. How would it look like? Liquidmetal looks like a normal metal.  Its silvery grey texture is same as that of other metals. It would just be different on the hue compared to the stainless steel. It could also be a bit warmer when touched compared to other metals. Have other companiesalready used this technology? Definitely – Samsung and Nokia’s flip phones have been made from Liquidmetal. But now, Apple has the exclusive license to use Liquidmetal and they will be the first company to manufacture products using this technology on a large scale. This is a first in Apple’s history to license material technology (enclosure and casing).

Well, this is surely going to be great. It will change the overall user interface of Apple, and its overall design. Moreover other companies which have the tendency of copying Apple will have a difficult time in mastering this new breakthrough technology.
