Lacie’s 2Big 6GB Thunderbolt series external HDD- Thunderbolt speeds

After Intel and Mac introduced the thunderbolt technology that provides whopping speeds of over 10 gigabits per second if the connection provides it, there have been some new NAND server stations and external HDD that have been popping out from the top notch companies. One of them Lacie,it is a company that makes high quality NAND devices. It is called LaCie 2Big and it deserves the name.

Their product is a professional storage device that packs inside two Seagate Barracuda hard drives with storage space of 3TB, 7200RPM. The product itself is quite heavy, it weighs over 2.7kg and by the looks of it, it isn’t meant for portability. The casing is really strong built and it looks quite resistant to outside influence. From the front side there is only one big blue button with the LeCie logo that is the power button. On the back side there are two thunderbolt ports, a power connector and two hard drive slots with hatches that open with a coin or a big screwdriver. This makes the hard drives very accessible and easily switchable.

This thunderbolt storage device provides some magnificent speeds for reading and writing that even surpass the speeds named in the prospect. Even though they say that the reading speed is maxed out at 327MB/s and the writing at 320MB/s the real speed overcomes these numbers and goes up to 370MB/s for reading and 350MB/s for writing. This makes it capable of streaming a lot of data at one time without a lag, or making big copies of files in the blink of an eye.

The only bad thing about this piece of hardware is the high price of $799 and the other bad thing is that it doesn’t come with a thunderbolt cable included and you have to spend about $50 more to get one.

I have always been a little confused as to what thunderbolt technology does. But I have always been a fan of cloud technology. Is this in a way the same? Are there similarities and differences to these two? I have been looking at a Western Digital My Book Live via a site and it sounds very promising in terms of Cloud technlogy. Hope you can check it out as well!
