Between the devices that are used for keeping data, the external hard drives take a special place. Easy montage, big capacity, low price and an ability to drag all of your precious data with you, make these devices the logical choice for user that move around. Behind the long name of the device is hidden a Samsung HD204UI drive that is from their SpinPoint F4 series, with a capacity of 2TB, wrapped in a box that is connected through a USB 3.0 cable, on which you will see a discrete Verbatim logo.

Except for the device in the box you will find a usage manual, a quite short USB 3.0 cable and because it is a 3.5 inch drive you also have an power adapter inside. It also comes with a software for backup- Nero BackitUPA and additional software. Mac OS X is also supported. The device itself is packed in a black discrete casing. The box is made of quite cheap black plastic with a non-glossy surface. The sides of the device are grills which are there for cooling the device, disabling the device to be set on the sides because of the possible overheating.

Except the backup software, Verbatim supplies you with a software which is used to adjust the electricity usage, which is called Green Button, also a package of programs called Verbatim Executive, which are used for formatting the hard drive in Fat 32, NTFS or HFS+ file system, encryption of the hard drive, as well as some basic operations with the data itself.

The performance of the hard drive is as expected. The max speed is about 120 MB/s, but with the hard drive speed of 5400 rpm the speed drops to 60 MB/s in some cases, making the optimal speed 100 MB/s.

The final conclusion is that it is a good device for the price of about $130, making it a good catch for the regular user that doesn’t require fireworks.
