Samsung lately has become a big player at the portable devices market with its gadgets. They are one of the biggest competitors against the “iPad” with their “Samsung Galaxy Tab” and their phones like the “Samsung Galaxy Note” are getting a big chunk of the market against the Mac iPhone. Now they are attacking another segment of Macintosh market, their portable media players with the new Samsung “Galaxy Player 70 Plus”, which they introduced recently.

The “Galaxy Player 70 Plus” is a media player with really good characteristics and it is an improved version from the last year’s model the “Samsung Galaxy S Wi-Fi 4.2”. It was launched in Korea on 5th March.

It has a 5 inch capacitive display with resolution of 480×800 pixels, an improved dual-core 1GHz processor from the previous device, which had a single processor. It comes in two versions, one with 16GB and another with 32GB of storage space. It has a card slot with a maximum capacity of 32GB. It has also two cameras, one in the back with 5MP and a LED diode and capabilities like Geo-tagging, smile detection etc. and one in the front which is a VGA camera.

The connectivity is made by a Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n and a Bluetooth 3.0. It has a MicroUSB port and a 3.5mm port. It weighs 186g and has dimensions of: 141.3×78.2×11.9mm. It has another improvement against the previous model and that is the DMB TV tuner. It has a 2,500mAh battery that will keep in line with that big screen.

It works on an Android 2.3 Gingerbread and it is equipped with a gyroscope, accelerometer and everything you need to play your favorite games and use the GPS navigation. The supported formats are as followed:

Audio-MP3/WMA/WAV/eAAC+/AC3/FLAC;

Video-MP4/XviD/DivX/WMV/H.264/H.263.

With an amazing 70h of audio play time and a price tag of $356 for the 16GB and $418 for the 32GB, it is a good choice against the iPod Touch.
