Sony Tablet P – Are Two Screens Better Than One?

Sony Tablet P

Sony a company that makes a lot of innovations, now hits us with their newest tablet piece. But is it good? Does it just look awesome, or is it groundbreaking in the way the other companies will follow?

The Sony tablet P from the outside looks like a glasses case, it has a nice and appealing look with silver color on the top and bottom, with black sides and frames inside surrounding the two screens. It will slide easily in a jacket pocket or pants because of its size when it is closed. On the outside there is a microUSB, power button, charger port and volume buttons. When you open the backside you will find a slot for a SIM card and a Micro SD slot.

The basis of the tablet is Tegra2, which is a bit outdated now, but it still gets the job done, with no lags while working. The 2×5.5 inch screens have resolution of 1024x480p (which is not a standard resolution), that makes additional problems with the software. The screens also have a true black technology by Sony but they have very bad viewing angles. There are two cameras, the one on the outside is a 5MP and the one inside 0.3MP and they aren’t that good.

When you open the tablet you are faced with no buttons, just two screens and Google’s Honeycomb 3.2.1 operating system, which is optimized by Sony for a dual screen work. Everything looks nice until you are faced with software that is not optimized or made for this tablet. The tablet is certified for Sony games, so all the PS games work perfectly, but the ones that are not optimized have a lot of problems. Also, a lot of the software is not made to work on both screens so they have problems adjusting.

All in all, it looks like this tablet is something that Sony forgot in their basement for the last year. It would have been awesome if it came out last year, but now it is outdated and with a lot of flaws. But still, two thumbs up for the effort in innovation.
