Samsung Optical Smart Hub – A way to get all the data in and out wirelessly

Samsung made a drive that will organize and play almost everything that you put in it, from a CD to a DVD and USB and stream, store or burn that wirelessly. This is one of the gadgets that you wish you had when you are faced with organizing your data. It is like a Swiss army knife that has all that you need packed in one simple casing.

The outside look of the drive is nothing new and extravagant, but it’s simple look shouldn’t full you because there is a lot happening beneath the surface. Still, on the outside except for the DVD rack there are few input connections on the back, like a MicroUSB a full size USB an Ethernet port and a power port. It can be powered by the AC adapter or using the USB cable, which comes in handy if there is no power outlet in the vicinity.

It acts as an external drive and burns DVD’s or CD’s with no problem. The bad thing is that it is not a Blu-ray reader or writer, so it feels a bit out of date, but the whole concept of this gadget is the streaming of the content media from and to it. It shows its strengths when it is unplugged from the computer, acting as a streaming hub, allowing you to stream any content from a CD,DVD or even a USB, with no problems. It has its own storage space, which it uses as a buffer, so it can stream anything wirelessly with no problem. The hub is really simple to adjust for streaming wireless content if you are using a PC, but it is really difficult if you use a Mac. The other cool feature is that it can stream the data from and to a smart phone giving you seamlessly perfect video on an Android or iOS phone, the same goes for a Samsung TV.

All in all it is a cool gadget to have, shame it doesn’t run Blu-ray but Samsung promises that in the next version of the device.
