DuckDuckGo

DuckDuckGo, a general purpose search engine founded in 2008, has received investments from Union Square Ventures and others. The amount invested in the company has not been disclosed.

The search engine has been seeing tremendous growth in the last few months. Although the company is not a big corporation with much staff, it has the potential to become big, judging from its recent growth and popularity.

Other investors in the round are Jim Young, Scott Banister, Jeff Miller, Kal Vepuri, Joshua Schachter and Peter Hershberg.

The original plan of DuckDuckGo was to raise capital until they saw a compelling reason to do so. They stuck to the plan for three and a half years. The popularity of their Zero-click Info, privacy policy and goodies made all the difference.

Union Square Ventures invests in young companies that use information technology in creative ways. They mostly invest in media, financial services, marketing, telecommunications and healthcare.

DuckDuckGo is different from other popular search engines in their zero click answers above links, less spam, advertisements and clutter. Their goodies and tech goodies include special search functions, personalized homepage, tools, plugins and add-ons.

The search engine has many spectacular features that are absent from other search engines. Advanced features like !Bang gives a solid boost to DuckDuckGo. Morover, the search engine does not collect or share personal information. Privacy is something that is of uttermost importance to Internet users. DuckDuckGo makes sure that your personal information does not reach other sources on the Internet through them.

All in all, a search engine to watch and follow. It might just prove a big competition to existing search engines.
